DVD Downloads

The battle for your movie dollar has been around for a long time, but it changed when the Internet became so far reaching. Netflix came about to help people choose their movies online, and then get them in their mailbox within a matter of days. This type of service threatened places like Blockbuster, and there were some smaller mom and pop video stores that went out of business as a result. Blockbuster started fighting back, and now we have come upon the age of online DVD downloads.

When Blockbuster decided to fight back, they went one better than Netflix. They would allow mailed DVD rentals just the same, but they could then be taken and exchanged in the store as well. To fight back from that, Netflix has started offering DVD downloads right to your personal computer if you wish. That means no waiting for the movie to arrive in the mail, and no need to return a DVD once it has been viewed and the next one is ready to go.

This seems to be a great idea, but will only work for a certain sector of the population. Not everyone has enough speed or enough space on their computer for DVD downloads. Unless you have a top of the line computer that is attached to extremely fast Internet, DVD downloads will take a while. However, this is something someone can do while they are at work or even while they run out to the store. You also have to have enough space on your computer to store the movie while being watched. You should also know it will probably only play a few times and you wonít be able to copy it.

Another downfall of the DVD downloads is that it is not the ideal way to watch a movie if you have a family. Unless you know how to stream from your computer to your television, itís not feasible for everyone to watch it at once from a computer screen. However, despite those downfalls, this could become something very common in the future, and people may start choosing DVD downloads rather than renting DVDs in any other state or fashion. As computers get better, the movies can come faster, and that means movies will soon be downloaded in minutes.

These DVD downloads may soon work much like Pay Per View on a television, but will be more for those who donít have an entire family wanting to watch at once, and perhaps for those who travel often. If your flight is delayed, you may just be able to download a movie to watch while you wait at the airport.
